Tooth Coloured Restoration- Composite Resin
Tooth coloured fillings can, in many cases, be used to repair problems with either the front or back teeth. Various materials are used for these fillings and are tailored to individual circumstances. In front teeth , tooth coloured fillings are made of either plastic or "liquid glass" to repair dental decay, erosion or abrasion problems, with an undetectable end result. In back teeth , "liquid glasses" or plastic fillings can be used to repair small decay or erosion problems, or replace the silver (amalgam) fillings which a lot of people don't want to have. For more major problems, tooth coloured fillings may not be the best answer; and we may need to place porcelain veneers, ceramic inlays, crowns or bridges instead.
Repairs Sensitive Teeth
Both front and back teeth can become sensitive - either due to problems with an old filling, or because incorrect tooth brushing has led to "cutting" ( abrasion ) along the side of the tooth. Acidic foods can cause " erosion ," which means a portion of the enamel has dissolved away, leading to exposure of dentine and the "alive" parts of the tooth. In these cases, we can use either plastic or "liquid glass" (glass ionomer) fillings, to repair the problem. Nevertheless, in some cases we can't do the job this simply and must use other techniques such as veneers, inlays, or crowns.
Repairs and Prevents Decay
At our offices, we have an in-depth knowledge of how decay affects a tooth. We are experts in the use of tooth coloured fillings to repair the destruction that decay has caused, without damaging the tooth any more than absolutely necessary. Our "liquid glass" fillings contain materials which combat decay. Especially for children's teeth, and side fillings in adult teeth, these fillings prevent further tooth problems.
At Camp Hill Dental, we strongly believe in preventative dentistry and embark to educate our patients, in a friendly manner, on how to prevent and stop the progression of decay.
Looks Like no Filling at all
The old days of unsightly black fillings have gone! In most cases, a simple relatively inexpensive tooth coloured filling can be used to fix teeth. In some cases, though, we can't do the job this simply and must use other techniques such as veneers, inlays, or crowns.
